Trump hopes to pick UN ambassador from 5 candidates
ELKO, Nevada (AP) — President Donald Trump says he hopes to select a U.N. ambassador to replace Nikki Haley very soon and is interviewing 5 candidates for the job. Trump said Saturday after a campaign rally in Nevada: "We'll have somebody great ... we're going to pick somebody very quickly. Trump said he's interviewing three women and two men for the post. Asked if he would prefer to have a woman in the job, he said "Yes," later adding: "I think I might prefer that, but we'll see."
Melting glacier in China draws tourists, climate worries
YULONGXUESHAN, China (AP) — The loud crack rang out from the fog above the Baishui No. 1 Glacier as a stone shard careened down the ice, flying past Chen Yanjun as he operated a GPS device. More projectiles were tumbling down the hulk of ice that scientists say is one of the world's fastest melting glaciers. "We should go," said the 30-year-old geologist. "The first rule is safety." Chen hiked away and onto a barren landscape once buried beneath the glacier. Now there is exposed rock littered with oxygen tanks discarded by tourists visiting the 15,000-foot (4,570-meter) -high blanket of ice in southern China.
Lynn says she's better after illness sent her to hospital
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Loretta Lynn says she is doing better after a brief hospital visit to treat an illness that kept her from attending a CMT tribute to her and other female country artists. A message posted on Lynn's official Facebook page Saturday afternoon said she is feeling better and is now resting at home. Lynn's post said she was sick, but did not provide additional details. The 86-year-old just released a new album, "Wouldn't It Be Great." She was unable to attend Wednesday's CMT Artists of the Year awards ceremony. Actress Sissy Spacek accepted the honor on Lynn's behalf.
Mega Millions numbers for $1B jackpot announced
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Mega Millions numbers that could win an estimated $1 billion jackpot have been announced.
They are 15 23 53 65 70 and Mega Ball 7. The jackpot is the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. lottery history. Mega Millions says it may take an hour or two to determine if there is a winner. The odds of winning are a miserable one in 302.5 million. The prize has grown so large because no one has hit the jackpot since July 24, when a group in California won $543 million.

UN Ambassador Nikki Haley pokes fun at herself at NY charity
NEW YORK (AP) — Nikki Haley was introduced as the next president of the United States by comedian Jim Gaffigan at a white-tie gala in New York Thursday evening where the outgoing U.N. Ambassador poked fun at her own Indian heritage, her boss and the current political climate. "Everyone in Washington called me with advice about this speech. They all said the same thing. Do not under any circumstances make any jokes about the president. So good night everybody!" quipped Haley. "Actually the president called me this morning and gave me some really good advice. He said if I get stuck for laughs, just brag about his accomplishments," she added.
